A Christmas Tree Decoration contest has just begun in The Oriental Legazpi last December 6, 2013. The Five Star Hotel took the experiences of the people of Visayas affected by Typhoon Haiyan as its inspiration. It lit up along the lobby to remind guests that the holiday season is a celebration of life, hope and gratefulness for the blessings we received in 2013.

A Tree of Giving welcomes you upon entering The Oriental Legazpi's full height glass doors. It is decked with glasses, spoons, forks and other silver wares which symbolizes the on-going cries that our brothers and sisters in Leyte and Samar are enduring due to Typhoon Haiyan. It represents the call for support, action and resolution.

The Oriental Legazpi invited college students in the Bicol region to unite through the creative use of recycled and indigenous materials like spray painted buri fan and garland of gold and colored sinamays. Among the schools who participated are AMA Computer College - Legazpi, Bicol College, Bicol University - College of Industrial Technology, Forbes College, Infotech Development Systems Colleges, Polangui Community College, University of North Eastern Philippines and University of Nueva Caceres.

Guests can enjoy the stream of light cascade down the 8 feet high Christmas tree decorated with the participant’s preferred themes like "Environmental", "Futuristic", "Filipiniana" and "Native Ornaments" through the first week of January 2014. One Christmas Tree was adorned with handwritten messages from students to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. Another used glittered snail shells to resemble Christmas Balls. The Christmas tree was judged on originality, creativity and impact by people from the media industry.
